A Wine Dinner with Mollydooker at Kona Kai Resort

This Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., Kona Kai Resort hosts a four-course pairing dinner with red wines from down under, courtesy of South Australia’s Mollydooker Wines. Thursday’s menu includes dishes like cinnamon-stick duck confit, salt-and-pepper shrimp, and espresso-rubbed tomahawk ribeye as well as cabernet, merlot, verdelho, and more from the vineyard. Guests will receive a sparkling shiraz welcome drink along with pork belly robata and watermelon bites prior to the meal. Reservations are $101 per person and include a 19 percent gratuity.

At the San Diego Soul Food Fest, several local Black-owned businesses will serve up tasty cultural dishes. This Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festival will feature live DJs; photo booths; vendors; and mouth-watering recipes, including BBQ staples, Caribbean cuisine, vegan options, and an array of scrumptious desserts. General admission is $13 for the festival, with the price rising to $20 the day of.

Tiki Oasis
August 6–10
This week, Town and Country Resort transforms into an island-inspired paradise seeped in tiki culture. In celebration of Tiki Oasis’s 25th anniversary, visitors can explore informative seminars; the vast tiki marketplace; a pop-up art exhibit; and an array of live entertainment, with concerts, DJ sets, and burlesque shows on the schedule. The festival begins Wednesday evening with the Catamaran Luau in Mission Bay (tickets range from $68 to $165) and ends Sunday with the Shake, Shout & Shimmy party ($45). Tickets are available for individual seminars (from free to $100) as well as the whole festival (from $180 to $699).

Counting Crows at Gallagher Square
August 7
Alt rock royalty Counting Crows released their first album in 11 years, Butter Miracle, The Complete Sweets!, this May. New Jersey punk rockers The Gaslight Anthem will kick off Counting Crows’ Thursday-evening concert at Gallagher Square. Tickets start at $59, and doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Wiz Khalifa at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre

Stoner savant Wiz Khalifa is well-known as a weed rapper, but his career is much more layered than that. His prolific mixtape run on Datpiff, which includes Kush & Orange Juice and Taylor Allerdice, helped shift hip-hop into the digital age. Now on his “Good Vibes Only Tour: Smoker’s Edition,” he’s bringing along an Avengers-esque lineup of rap talent, with Chevy Woods, Ab-Soul, Dom Kennedy, Curren$y, and Earl Sweatshirt all on the bill. Tickets start at $21 for Khalifa’s concert this Friday (6:30 p.m.) at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre.

San Diego Black Pride’s fifth annual festival offers a trio of 21-plus events that emphasize Black queer and trans expression. The festivities will begin on the runway with The Legacy Ball at Gossip Grill on Friday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., followed by Back Room Rewind, a high-energy throwback party at Urban Mo’s on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. San Diego Black Pride 2025 concludes with a Sunday Cookout from 1 to 9 p.m. with live performances, food, and games at Wicked West. Ticket options include general admission to The Legacy Ball ($20), Back Room Rewind ($25), and Sunset Cookout ($75), as well as the VIP weekend pass ($160).

San Diego’s LGTBQ epicenter hosts its annual CityFest, a free festival with all-day performances, shopping, and partying. This Sunday from noon to 11 p.m., tune into a live music lineup on two stages in Hillcrest. Plus, explore an arts and craft ramble featuring artists, performers, local businesses, two cocktail bars, a beer garden, and a kids’ zone with interactive activities and a drag queen storytime led by the Imperial Court de San Diego.

The Wulfeater at Tenth Avenue Arts Center

Set in a fictionalized version of Cleveland, the interactive musical The Wulfeater takes audiences inside a punk rock–infused pleasure center where men go to be mothered. General admission (18+) is $37 for this world-premiere musical, with weekly performances Friday (7:30 p.m.), Saturday (7:30 p.m.), and Sunday (4 p.m.) through September 7 at Tenth Avenue Arts Center.

[Title of Show] at New Village Arts
August 8–September 21
Season 24 at New Village Arts begins with [Title of Show], a musical made for anyone who’s been stuck in a creative funk. In this semi-autobiographical production, directed by Moxie Theatre’s Executive Artistic Director Desireé Clarke Miller, two writers with an impending deadline struggle to create a musical about the process of creating a musical. There will be three preview performances of [title of show] this week (Friday through Sunday), with opening night slated for August 16. Unity Opening Reception at Centro Cultural de la Raza

Unity is San Diego Artists Unified (SDAU)’s first community exhibition. Curated by SDAU founder Alejandro Morales Riveron, this exhibition at Centro Cultural de la Raza features sculpture, painting, photography, and mixed-media pieces from local artists. A free opening reception takes place Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. with a vinyl DJ set from DJ Justo and light refreshments. Unity will remain on display through the end of August.

Concussion at Distinction Gallery

In the group exhibition Concussion, curated by local oil painter Brady Willmott, 25 artists will showcase their work—featuring immersive natural worlds, hybrid sea animals, and a cat in a spacesuit, to name a few subjects—at Escondido’s Distinction Gallery. Neither the German-born John Gutmann or the New York–bred Max Yavno were California natives, but both completed monumental work capturing the state’s nuances while living in San Francisco and Los Angeles. In the new exhibition John Gutmann & Max Yavno: California Photographers at the San Diego Museum of Art, viewers can examine Gutmann’s expansive vision of the ordinary and Yavno’s nostalgic catalog of daily life.

See era-defining actresses from Hollywood’s Golden Age light up the silver screen in the 19th annual Flicks on the Bricks at The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. This year’s outdoor film series features a lineup of four woman-driven comedies selected by local film critic and Cinema Junkie host Beth Accomando. The screenings begin Thursday at 8 p.m. with She Done Him Wrong, followed by My Man Godfrey (Aug. 14), Private Lives (Aug. 21), and Easy Living (Aug. 28).
