San Diego County Vintners Association Wine Festival at Bernardo Winery

Sip in the sunshine to cap off San Diego Wine Week at the San Diego County Vintners Association’s annual salute to local wine. From 1 to 4 p.m. this Sunday at Bernardo Winery, attendees can enjoy individual charcuterie plates, unlimited wines from more than 20 local wineries, a silent auction, and live music. General admission is $95 while designated driver (admission and charcuterie only) tickets are $34. Funds from the festival will support the SDCVA’s education programs and promotion for the local wine region.

Le Salon De Musiques: A Dazzling Season Finale
June 1
Le Salon De Musiques will conclude its 2024–25 season at the La Jolla Woman’s Club with an orchestral performance featuring the works of Beethoven, Schumann, and Austro-Hungarian composer Karl Goldmark this Sunday at 4 p.m. The chamber music collective’s season finale will begin with a historical perspective on the evening’s selections from musicologist Malachai Bandy. And, as always, the performance will be followed by a Q&A with the artists and a high tea buffet with Champagne. Tickets are $120 and can be purchased here.

Valley Center Western Days Festival & Parade

Valley Center rings in its 75th anniversary with a series of celebratory events, including its annual western-themed festival and parade. The festivities on Friday and Saturday at Valley Center Community Hall will include a car show, line dancing lessons, a wild west show, live music, a 5K fun run, carnival rides, and a chili cook-off. Then, on Sunday, you can stop by the inaugural tamale festival, complete with banda music, a beer garden, a tamale contest, and more from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for all three festival days and the parade.

Through a series of orchestrated pieces—created alongside collaborators like the prolific Blood Orange—as well as spoken word, film, projected art, and dance from choreographer Roderick George, Seth Parker Woods’ Difficult Grace embraces Black artistry and identity with a powerful multimedia show. Join the seaside party at Fiesta Del Sol, a free two-day festival at Fletcher Cove Park, returning to the shores of Solana Beach for the 44th time. In the jukebox musical A Beautiful Noise, audiences will journey through Diamond’s humble beginnings and ascent into superstardom with a soundtrack boasting his greatest hits, like “Forever in Blue Jeans” and “Cracklin’ Rosie.” Tickets start at $44 for A Beautiful Noise, with eight performances this week at the Civic Theatre.

Extended School Partnership Showcase: Charter School of San Diego at MCASD

See projects by youth artists from the Charter School of San Diego for just over two weeks in the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s Axline Court. As part of the museum’s Extended School Partnership Showcase, students created personal pieces about their experiences living in the San Diego-Tijuana region. The museum will also continue to showcase heritage projects from Barona Charter School’s 8th grade culture class in Axline Court through June 30.

In White Guy on The Bus, making its San Diego premiere with a three-week run at the OnStage Playhouse, a well-off white businessman and single Black mom share weekly trips on the same bus route. Michael Roque Collins: Corpus Sanctum at LOS/NR

The newest exhibition at La Jolla gallery level of service not required, opening this Saturday, will hone in on a prolific decade for artist Michael Roque Collins. From 1990 to 2000, Collins’ artistic viewpoint transformed dramatically from photorealistic watercolor paintings to expressive visions of a dismal and perilous world. Corpus Sanctum will have an opening reception Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the gallery and remain on display for free through July 26.

L’elisir d’amore: In Concert at the Villa Montezuma Museum

A little liquid courage—via a “magic” alcoholic potion—goes a long way in Gaetano Donizetti’s operatic melodrama L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love). In this Italian classic set in Basque Country, a peasant looks to win over his true love despite their vast difference in class. Soloists Alexis Alfaro, Tiffany Brannan, Igor Vieira, Bryan Dahl, and Rebekah Brannan will star in this opera concert at the Villa Montezuma Museum. Tickets are $30, with performances Sunday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 7 p.m.

Now, Wallace has honed his stills in the art of stand-up, with his new tour The Alpha Beta Male coming to the Balboa Theatre Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $50 to $72 for this comedy show.

The Rock ’n‘ Roll San Diego run is the ultimate scenic route workout with an electric pace. The weekend of racing starts Saturday with a classic 5K run through Balboa Park, followed by Sunday’s half-marathon and marathon, with bands and DJs performing along the course. Other activities include a health and fitness expo on Friday and Saturday at the San Diego Convention Center and a post-race music festival on Sunday at Waterfront Park, right by the finish line. Registration is $99 for the 5K, $190 for the half-marathon, and $200 for the marathon.
